Tega Cay

Tega Cay, South Carolina – Thomas Jeffery Delcourt (Jeff), 78, of Tega Cay, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Wellmore of Tega Cay with family by his side. He was born on March 28, 1947, to the late Roland B. and Helen P. (Leclair) Delcourt.

Jeff graduated from Westbrook High School in 1965 and promptly enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably. He shared many stories of his adventures overseas, with Morocco, Iceland, and the USS Saratoga being highlights of his time in service.

Following his military service, Jeff pursued a prosperous and rewarding career in the newspaper industry. He spent many years at Gannett Publishing in Portland, Maine, before relocating to Vero Beach, Florida, where he worked with the Press Journal. He eventually took on a role with Harris Systems in Melbourne, Florida, where he traveled and advised nationally on his acquired skills in the trade. He finished his career as the pre-press technology director, at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He retired in 2002, but his curiosity to always learn new things led him to work part time at the Greenville, South Carolina Sheriff's Department, where he helped reshape the 911 Call Center and personally fielded over 50,000 calls.

Jeff married Cathy L. (Farley) Delcourt on April 23, 1971. They were blessed with two sons, Mark G. Delcourt and Thomas J. Delcourt. Cathy was the "Sunshine" of his days!

He served his community in many ways. A passionate sports enthusiast, he umpired both high school and college baseball for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and actively worked with the Boys and Girls Club in multiple communities. An Eagle Scout, he treasured his time in the northern woods as a scout. A talented golfer, Jeff maintained a single-digit handicap and was a member of Gorham Country Club, Dodger Pines Country Club, and Carolina Springs Golf Club. His greatest love, however, was his wife Cathy, and together they were fortunate to sail the world on numerous occasions.

Jeff was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cathy (1950-2015); his parents; his sisters, Martha Cultrera and Mary Beth Baker; and his brothers, Mark Delcourt and John Delcourt. He is survived by his brother, Michael Delcourt (Kathy), and his sister, Deborah Pinette (Paul). He is also survived by his sons, Mark Gregory Delcourt and his wife Amanda of Cottleville, MO, and Thomas Joseph (TJ) Delcourt and his wife Jenifer of Tega Cay, SC. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Tanner, Nash, Kinsley, Ryleigh, and Payton, whom he adored. Jeff was part of a large extended family and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Wellmore of Tega Cay and to all of Jeff’s friends for their many years of love and support.

Services will be held at a future date, where Jeff will be reunited with his beloved wife, Cathy, in Westbrook, Maine. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to a charity of your choice.
