Thomas Frederick Harris Jr., 82, of Tega Cay, SC passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center at Pineville. Born December 2, 1930, in Charlotte, NC, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas and Louise Harris. Mr. Harris was a graduate of Elon University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean War. Mr. Harris had a very long and successful career in sales. He was employed by Prentice Hall, Pitney Bowes, and retired as one of the top salesmen at Classified Yellow Page One. He was an active member of the Lions Club at Tega Cay, and a member of the Charlotte Choral Society, as well as the Carolina Chordsmen. He and his wife, Nora, were members of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Thomas was full of life. He could make everyone around him smile. He was extremely patriotic and passionate about working out and staying fit. He was training at the Springs Recreation Complex in Fort Mill, SC, for this year's Iron Man Challenge, several of which he'd won in the past. He was very enthusiastic about singing and always enjoyed a good audience. Tom also loved his dog, Yancy Bear. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Sandra Hunter, and his sister, Virginia Rothman and her husband Paul. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Nora P. Harris; two sons, Thomas H. Harris and wife, Juliana, of Mineral Springs, NC, Graham J. Harris and wife, Julia, of Charlotte; stepdaughters Gloria Correll and husband, Terry, of Woodland Hills, California, and Rhonda Hammond-Barker and husband, Tom, of Lake Wylie, SC, grandchildren, Shane Hammond and wife, Robin, of Charlotte, London Hunter, Chase Hunter, Graham Harris Jr., Sarah Harris, William Harris, Kyle Harris, great grandchildren, Colt Hammond, and Taylor Hammond. Nephews, Paul Rothman, Tommy Rothman, Bobby Rothman, and niece, Margaret Rothman. A service to celebrate his life will take place 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC with Rev. Talbot Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Palmetto Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tega Cay Lions Club, P.O. Box 3333, Tega Cay, SC 29708.
