Thomas Jerry Howard

Edgemoor, SC - Thomas J. Howard (aka Jerry or Grandpa), born May 16, 1947, in Rock Hill, SC passed away peacefully at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, at 8:09 am at the age of 77.

A celebration of Life Service and burial of cremains will be planned and scheduled for a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia SC when all the Family can be together. His wife Sylvia will also be buried alongside him at that time.

Jerry was the son of the late Richard W. Goings and Icemiley (Miley) Sisk Goings of Summerville, SC., formerly of York, South Carolina.

After High School, Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 25 years.  He was very proud of his Country, and he never left the house without one of many of his Navy Hats.  After his military Service and following in his father’s footsteps, Jerry was a Butcher in the local Supermarkets until he retired in September 2021.  On October 3rd, 1992, Jerry married his High School Sweetheart Sylvia Jean Hutto.  They never had any children together BUT he treated the granddaughters as his own.  He had a special bond with Marisa, the youngest of three.

Left to Cherish his Memories are his Step-Daughter’s, Sheila Ramos and Joeseph Meadows of Edgemoor, SC and Linda Asencio and her husband George of Naples, Florida; Four Granddaughters,  Jessica Haywood (Andrew) of Lake Wylie, SC, Erica Pena of Edgemoor, SC, Kaila Trezza (Ryan) of Naples FL, and Marisa Erwin (Brandon) of Chester, SC; and eight Great-Grandchildren, Anthony, Annabelle, Adrianna, Alexander, Damian, Jordan, Kinsley, and Elijah.

Jerry was preceded in death by his Wife Sylvia J. Howard, a native of Fort Mill, SC; a Sister, Dorothy Hinely, of Vass NC and a Sister Mary Estes Henry, of Rock Hill, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson Disease foundation or Dementia Society of America.

Until we meet again Grandpa, go fishing with your dad and give Nana a kiss for us.  Like Joe would tell you daily – Grandpa, you hold the fort down til we get home!!
