Trent David McKinster of Waxhaw passed away 6/1/2022 while doing what he loved, being outside and exercising.
He was 57 years old.
Trent was born in Grand Florks ND, lived in Texas, Indiana and finally Waxhaw, NC.
Trent graduated from Indiana University where he met the love and partner of his life and received a BA in Telecommunications.
Trent worked a variety of jobs including a retail clerk at a bus station, where he sold engagement rings to service men on their way home. He worked at a lawn and motor company, where he learned basic mechanics. Another interesting job was at a flower shop where he learned about flowers and how to make a stunning flower arrangement. Trent's final job was with TDARX, where he worked in telecommunications for almost 30 years. All these life experiences made him handy at home and around the neighborhood. He would fix people's bikes, give lawn care tips, mend the bridges, pick up trash and offer many other simple gestures which demonstrated his care and love for the community and those around him.
Trent had an uncommon way of connecting with everyone he met. He saw value in all and was able to see everyone's inner light and uniqueness. He would wander off and it would not be unusual to hear "Where is Trent?" during get togethers. Trent would reappear with stories saying "guess who I just talked to" or a story of an animal he found and interacted with. He was a real outdoorsman, he loved fishing and observing nature. He worked crosswords daily, like a boss, with a pen.
Trent's wit and humor surpassed all his other attributes. He could always make people laugh and all who knew him, have a story to tell.
Besides his constant companion and wife of over 30 years Cheryl, Trent is survived by his two sons Mason and Colin and his sister Andrea. He also leaves cousins, in-laws, a niece, nephews and a host of friends that will truly miss him. Trent was a loving and devoted son to his parents, especially his mother Sharon who passed in 2021.
The family will hold a celebration of life from 5:00-7:00 at their home on Tuesday June 7, 2022. In case of rain, the celebration will be held at the neighborhood clubhouse. All are welcome, food and drinks will be provided. A ceremony will be held for the first 30 minutes and those that want to share their story about Trent will be invited to share. The remaining time will be casual and drop-in.
As mentioned above Trent loved the outdoors and the beauty of nature. His yard that he cared for meticulously shows this love. If you wish to do something, the family suggests, consider a donation to Carolina Wildlife Conservation Center which helps to rescue wild animals in the Lake Norman area of Charlotte. The website is
