Vera Mae Jones

Mrs. Vera Mae Jones, 86, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. A celebration of her life will be held at 12 noon Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Verdery officiating. She will be laid to rest in Grandview Memorial Park on South Cherry Road. Born in McFarland, NC. , Vera was the second of six children of the late Bonnie and Carrie Short Northcutt. She was a graduate of Columbia High School of Columbia, SC, and married Larry M. Jones on December 14, 1949. She moved to Rock Hill, SC in 1948, worked with her husband at Larry Jones Body Shop until 1970 and recently retired as secretary to her son Robert M. Jones, attorney at law, after more than 35 years of service. Vera was of the Baptist Faith, loved dancing and traveling, participated in the Silver Fox Club and was a member of Catawba # 131 Order of the Eastern Star. Vera was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her son Wayne and her brothers Bill, John, Ision, Jerry, Bonnie, Jr. and Charles Northcutt. She is survived by her son, Robert Jones (Nancy) of Rock Hill, three grandchildren, Jeff Jones (Karen), Ashley Jones and Paul Jones, one great grandchild, Kinsey Jones. The Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 in the Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, and other times at the home of her son Robert Jones. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, , PO Box 1011, Rock Hill, SC, 29731. The family has entrusted Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with the care of Mrs. Vera Mae Jones.
