Victor James Stone, 1945-2011

ROCK HILL - Victor James (V.J.) Stone of Rock Hill, South Carolina, died peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill following complications from a stroke.

V.J. was the son of the late Lloyd Lee Stone and Mary Flinchem Stone of Statesville, NC. He was born in Ronda, N.C. on V.J. Day, August 14. 1945. He attended school at Mountain View in Wilkes County and graduated from Statesville High School in 1965. He attended Mitchell College in Statesville and was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Broad Street Church of Christ in Statesville, N.C.
V.J. was a talented floral designer and owned and operated floral shops in Troutman and Charlotte, N.C. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed collecting antiques.

V. J. was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother-in-law Charles Roope, maternal grandparents James W. Flinchem and Minnie Wood Flinchem and paternal grandparents Jesse B. Stone and Lillie S. Stone and step-grandmother Bessie Baugess Stone.

V. J. is survived by Jerry Burris of the home in Rock Hill, and his sisters, Minnie Nell Stone Roope and Dianne Stone Muse and her husband, Dr. George Muse, all of Statesville. He is survived by three nephews, Jeffrey Roope of Statesville, Dr. Kevin Muse and wife Vida of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Keith Muse and wife Carianne of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by three nieces, Tammy McLaury and husband Bruce McLaury of Hiddenite, Lisa Denham and husband Dean Denham of Statesville, and Risa Medlin and husband Scott Medlin of Troutman. He is also survived by six great nieces and one great nephew.

Whitesell Funeral Home of Rock Hill is in charge of arrangements.

The Memorial Service for Mr. Stone will be held at Oakdale Baptist Church, 585 Mocksville Highway, Statesville, NC on Saturday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM..
