Assistant Chief Roger Wayne George
Rock Hill - Assistant Chief Roger Wayne George, 67, died Thursday, January 21, 2016.
Funeral services will be Noon, Friday, January 29, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Catawba Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. George was a son of the late John Marvin George and Evelyn Brown George. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Marine Corp where he achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. After his military service he worked as a supervisor in the construction industry. He was elected as Assistant Chief for the Catawba Nation Indian Tribe in August 2011 and was re-elected in August 2015.
Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Plyler George; three sons, Fred "Calvin" George, Bryan Wayne George, and Leonard "Chad" George; two daughters, Mandy George Howard (Jamie) and Nyeoka "Nikki" George; three brothers, Howard George, Phillip George, and John E. George; three sisters, Faye Griener, Joann Bauer, and Susan George; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie George and Kenneth George and a sister, Nancy George.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Whitesell Funeral Home.
