Wiley Floyde Hamilton, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. A native of Bedford, VA, Mr. Hamilton was born September 30, 1922, son of the late John Donald and Fannie Burge Moore Hamilton. He worked for a number of years as a police detective with the city of Newport News, VA and subsequently worked for The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel from which he retired. Mr. Hamilton was educated in the public schools in Appomattox, VA. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre and also a Navy veteran and member of Lakeview Church in Charlotte, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Susan Irene Acree Hamilton, a daughter Janet Wenona Hamilton Scott, 4 siblings Venice H. Lucado, Raymond Hamilton, Elva H. Harris and Frances H. Glover, also his first wife, Nannie Sue Watson. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy Hamilton Lawrence and her husband Richard of Falls Church, VA. Grandchildren, Luther Scott and his wife Amber, Wenona Scott and her husband Shannon Atkins, James R. Lawrence, III and his wife Valerie, Kathy Lawrence Perry and her husband Geoff. Great-grandchildren, Emily, Trenton and Abigail Scott, Sol and Maynhard Atkins, Layla and Elisia Lawrence, Sofia and William Perry, A step-daughter, Linda A. Powell of WV, step-son, Jerry Allen and his wife Sharon of CT, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hamilton will be held Saturday at 11:00am in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Richard Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00am until the hour of service on Saturday.
