Wilfred Ira Myers

Mr. Wilfred I. Myers, age 91, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 in the care of Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born in Indiana County, PA on June 22, 1924, he was a son of the late Wilford B. Myers and Lillie Adams Myers. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Dorothy Jean Myers.

Upon completion of high school in Heilwood, PA in 1943, he joined the Naval Officers Training V-12 program and attended Miami University of Ohio followed by Harvard University. He served as a supply officer, rank of ensign on the U.S.S. Blatchford. After the navy, he attended law school at the University of Cincinnati, where he received his Juris Doctorate. He joined the F.B.I. as a special agent in 1949 and served in Memphis, Knoxville and New York. After leaving the F.B.I in 1960, he worked for Prudential Insurance Company in New Jersey as Manager of the Part B Medicare Program until retirement in 1986. He also worked on the New Jersey State Health Planning Committee, and the Millville, NJ, City Planning Council.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed a good game of poker with his retired friends. He loved following the stock market in his later years.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Fort Mill, SC; son, Leslie Myers and wife, Donna of Mason City IA; and daughters, Diane Smith and husband Phil of Fort Mill, SC; and Claudia Rogers and husband Bill, of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Myers of Raleigh, NC.

There will be a memorial service held in Indiana, PA at a date TBD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Community Care, 2275 India Hook Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
