Willa Mary Pierce

August 14, 1927 — April 5, 2017

Willa Mary Lyons Pierce passed peacefully into the loving arms of Our Heavenly Father on April 5, 2017. She was born August 14, 1927 in Decatur, Illinois to William Shelby Lyons and Addie Esther Pifer Lyons. She grew up in Houston, Texas and during World War II met the love of her life, ‘Piercy,' Army Air Corp Flight Officer Merrill Lyman Pierce and were married for 70 years. Members of Jefferson United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, LA., they had recently relocated to the Carolinas to be near family. She is survived by sisters in law Gloria Pierce Brandt and Joan McConnell Pierce, her three children, Cheryl Pierce Moneyhun, Merrill Lyman Pierce, Jr., Paula Pierce Moore and her husband Todd. Eight grandchildren, Polly Moneyhun Koczalka and her husband Frank, Amanda Moneyhun Fisher and her husband Brannon, Alison Rae Pierce, Meghan Elizabeth Pierce and her fiancé Ryan, Taylor Jane Pierce and friend Josh, Shelby Ellen Langdon Moore and friend Tyson, Leanna Alyce Pierce Moore and Nicholas Walter Todd Moore, great grandchildren Lindsey Ann and April Lizabeth Koczalka and Waverly Mae and Layla Pierce Fisher, and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Addie Lyons, sisters Suzie McMillan and her husband Odell, Peggy Kentner and her husband Norman, brothers in law Leon Webster Pierce and his wife Patricia, Willard Harrington Pierce, Jake Brandt, and sister in law Sally Pierce Chace and her husband Jimmy, and son in law Gary N. Moneyhun.
