William George Blackmon, Jr., 89, of Rock Hill, SC passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015. Born in Rutherfordton, NC, Mr. Blackmon was a son of the late William G. Blackmon, Sr. and Mabel Petty Blackmon. He was a graduate of York High School. He lettered in baseball and football. He also played in the 1943 NC vs. SC Shrine Bowl Game. Mr. Blackmon worked for Rock Hill Printing and Finishing, Duff Norton, and Blackmon Septic Tank Service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WWII on the U.S.S. Portunus. He was a member and former elder and deacon of Bethesda Presbyterian Church and served on the Service and Property Committee. He enjoyed playing tennis and badminton with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Blackmon. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Johnson Blackmon; a brother, Jerry Blackmon (Irene); a sister, Joan Christmas (Lonnie); and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Blackmon will be held 11am Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10am until service time. Memorials may be made to Bethesda Presbyterian Cemetery Association.
