William Henry Brookshire, Jr.

March 23, 1931 — March 12, 2022

William Henry Brookshire Jr.,”Bill”,age 90, of Rock Hill, SC peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 12, 2022. Bill was born to parents William Henry Brookshire and Elizabeth Collie Brookshire on March 23, 1931 in Greer, SC.

After high school, he served in the Air Force as a Military Policeman while stationed in Korea and while there was awarded the Korean Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Later, he met his wife, Catherine Coggins while employed with the Colonial grocery store chain. They lived in Charlotte, NC. for 41 years and raised four children. Bill worked as a grocery store manager until his retirement. His leadership skills were recognized and praised for an ability to train and develop people. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working in the landscape field with his son Joe. In 1981 he and Catherine moved to Rock Hill, SC.

Bill is survived by his four children, Donald Lee Brookshire and wife Dorothy Brookshire of Kiawah Island SC, Shirley Brookshire Setzer and her husband John Setzer of Rock Hill, SC, William Henry Brookshire III and his wife Cindy Brookshire of Clemmons, NC, Joe Alex Brookshire and his wife Leslie Brookshire of Charlotte, NC, one sister Margaret Joyce Powell of Atlanta, Georgia, ten grandchildren,18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife Catherine Coggins Brookshire, his brother Joe Brookshire, and his sister Carolyn Stephens.

Bill was known for his faith in God, his love of family, gardening, Atlanta Braves baseball, and golf. He began his service to Jesus Christ at an early age. As a former member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte he served as a deacon. He spent many Sunday afternoons visiting and witnessing for Jesus Christ. His service to Jesus Christ continued as a member of Friendship UMC. There, he served as a Sunday school teacher, Lay Leader, President of the Men’s Club, and Pastor Parish Relations Committee. His love of family was tied to his love of Christ. He greatest desire is to see his family in heaven.

The funeral will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Friendship United Methodist Church, 1200 Neely Store Road Rock Hill, SC. Visitation will be at the church at 12:00 PM prior to the funeral service at 1:00. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. Funeral arrangements are with Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home of Rock Hill, S.C.
