William Walter Harper, Jr.

William Walter (Bill) Harper, Jr., 82, of Indian Land, SC, beloved husband, father, and Papa passed away on December 28, 2017, at Novant Medical Center in Matthews, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born to Bill and Bernice D'Olive Harper in Albertville, Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Accounting and was a lifelong War Eagle Fan. He was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Borden Dairy for over 30 years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Northcutt; his children Lyn (Ben) of Ocean Springs, MS, Vic (Carol) of Normal, IL, and Amy (Allen) of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren; Lindsay, Lanie, Sarah Miller, Isabel, Harper, and Lydia; one great-granddaughter Lila; and one on the way.

A private burial service will be followed by a Memorial Service and Reception for family and friends at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 with Rev. Joel McMakin and Rev. Carl Settle officiating at Pleasant Hill UMC, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, SC 29707.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill UMC or the Cancer Research Institute (Lung Cancer research), 29 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10006-3201.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the medical staff of Novant Medical Center, Matthews, Dr. Neuman and staff of Novant Health Care Specialists, Ballantyne, and Dr. Bobo and staff of Levine Cancer Institute, Pineville, for providing compassionate and professional care to Bill.
