William Francis Mclean

July 15, 1936 — December 5, 2021

Rock Hill

William Francis McLean, “Billy Boy”, or “Pops”, 85, of Rock Hill, SC and formerly of Birmingham, England, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, December 5th, 2021. He was born July 15th, 1936, in Ireland, son of the late Thomas McLean and Matilda Divet.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kath Sawyer, and his brother, Larry McLean.

“Wild Bill” McLean was a devoted fan of the Aston Villa Football Club, always finding the time to cheer on his team and especially his favorite former player, Jack Grealish. William always ensured to tape his weekly Sunday Football games to enjoy and watch over with his family. William’s spirit symbolized that of the Lion, which was Aston Villa’s Traditional Club Badge – bold and brave in nature.

William was a fearless and courageous Veteran of the British Army, having served for a number of years. With a vast gratitude for his fellow homeland’s Veterans, William also frequently participated in and supported the British Royal Legion, which is a British charity organization that provides a wide array of support to Veterans and current members of The British Armed Forces, as well as their dependents. Respect and appreciation were a key feature in William’s morals.

Most important to him was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grand-father, great grand-father, and friend.

He leaves a legacy to be cherished by his survivors, his wife, Margaret Anne McLean; son, Vernon McLean and wife Teresa McLean; brother, George McLean; sister-in-law, Mary McLean, wife of the late Larry McLean; stepdaughters, Karen Fitzgerald, and Tracey Drury; beloved grandchildren, Kasey Collins, Van Collins, Kodie Oswald, Jesse Drury, Justin Drury, Carleigh McLean, and Thomas McLean; as well as great grand-children, Kayden Oswald, Carson Duncan, Rhealyn Drury, and Eden McLean.

A Service will be held by the family at Antioch United Methodist Church, on Friday, December 10th, 2021, at 1PM.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the medical nurses, physicians, and staff, as well as his dear friends for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care that was provided.  Your kindness will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
