Mr. William H. "Bill" Reid of Indian Land South Carolina died on February 28, 2013. He was a member of Transformation 521 Church. He was born July 15, 1932 in Delbarton, W.V. He was preceded in death by Richard and Bern ice Pell Hollandsworth Reid. In addition to his father and birth mother of 3 years he was also preceded in death by a wonderful loving step-mother of 62 years, Edythe L. Hagy Reid. He was a retired Federal Coal Mine Inspector with thirty five years of civilian service and two years in The United States Marine Corp. He was well known throughout the mining community in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and Pennsylvania due to involvement in mine fires/explosions and recovery operation. He was an original Charter Member of the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administrations first mine rescue team, and he was also member of the Veterans of Mine Rescue Pittsburgh District. He retired in January 2005 as an Education and Training Specialist after having positions of Coal Mine Inspector, Supervisor Inspector and Assistant District Manager. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Faulkner Reid; also surviving are daughters Deborah and husband Richard Greene of Wheeling WV and Patty Mucheck of Charleston, WV ; son's Bill and wife Sis of Fairmont, WV, Michael and wife Susan of Wheeling WV, Eli and wife Eva of Charlotte, NC, and Erik and wife Dionne of Myrtle Beach, SC. Two sisters and husbands, Donna and Joe Mezzico of Havelock, NC and Sandra Kay and Jim Cser of Pfafftown, NC, three brothers and wives, Jim and Betty of Princeton, WV, Dick and Jacquelyn of Winston Salem, NC and Jack and Cathy of Winston Salem, NC; also surviving are fourteen grandchildren with the fifteenth due September and seven great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, March 4, 2013 at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive , Fort Mill, SC 29708. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 1:00 pm at Palmetto Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Transformation Church Building Fund, 9030 Northfield Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29707.
