William Irvin Schmelzle

William I. Schmelzle, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Westminster Health and Rehab Center, Rock Hill, SC. He was born December 25, 1929 in Ira, NY to Roy and Irma French Schmelzle. After attending school in Cauga County NY and an Army tour of Korean combat duty, pursued a career in the grocery business as a Meat Cutter/Department Manager in Michigan and New York and he last worked at the Springs Peach Stand in Fort Mill, SC. Bill attended church at The Journey at Lake Wylie and his greatest pleasure was working in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jean Raymond Schmelzle, his son James (Anne) Schmelzle of Rantoul, IL, daughter Patricia Bennett of Concord, NC and step-daughter Carol (Russ) Edwards of Virden, IL, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia May Schmelzle and wife Doris Lahr Schmelzle. Visitation will be from 2-3PM, Sunday, October 12, 2014 followed at 3PM by a Celebration of Life at Palmetto Funeral Home and Crematory, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29708 and burial will follow at Philadelphia UMC Cemetery.
