William Harrison Steinberg Iii

William H "Bill" Steinberg III, 81 passed away peacefully of natural caused on Saturday, February 3rd at The Blake at Edgewater Indian Land, SC, where he has been living the past seven months.

Bill was born July 6th, 1942 in Passaic, NJ, the son of William H Steinberg III and Virginia C Steinberg. He had a beloved sister, Susan Jane, who pre-deceased him. Bill attended Greenwich High School, graduating in 1962.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ethel, a son, Bill, 55 of Wellesley, MA, and Cathleen Kreppein, 53, of Charlotte, NC and six grandchildren. Bill was a long time Greenwich resident, living in Riverside for 45 years.

Bill worked in various managerial positions in New York and Connecticut throughout his career, including long tenure at  the former Globe Slicing Machine Company in Stamford, CT.

While living i Riverside he was an active volunteer of the Old Greenwich / Riverside Community center (OGRCC) which including coaching youth football, softball and organizing the annual firework display at Binney Park. Bill was a loving and devoted grandfather, never missing a chance to spend time with his six grandchildren, He could often be found proudly cheering them on from the sidelines. Bill has a quick wit and was always on hand to lend a hand and a smile.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwhich, where he served as an elder and also headed up the annual Strawberry social on several occasions. Bill has assorted hobbies, including a life - long passion for weightlifting. He was an avid gardener, car enthusiast, football fan, miniature war gamer, and an avid student of history.

He was a light in every room he entered and will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
