William Herbert Whitsen

William H. Whisten at 73 years of age, surrounded by his loving family, passed on to a peaceful realm after an excruciating, yet brave battle with cancer on April 12, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rosemary Turso Whisten, his son Scott and his wife Frances of Wayne, NJ, and his daughter Cheryl Wachtel and her husband Scott of Fort Mill, SC. He also leaves behind his precious grandchildren Ava & Antonio Whisten and Lola & James Wachtel. William was the firstborn of Irene Saldarini Whisten and William J. Whisten, both who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother Charles. His remaining extended family includes his brother Gary, his mother-in-law Florence Turso, sisters & brothers in law: Diane & Jerry Lembo, Janet Turso & Steve Donnelly, Charles Turso, RoseMarie & Dave Bauer, and many nieces and nephews.

After serving his country for 3 ½ years in the Air Force, a year of which was spent in Vietnam, he went on to the West New York Police Force. During his 30 years on the job, he got his Bachelor's degree in Police Science and made his way through the ranks to Deputy Chief of Police.

He was fortunate enough to enjoy more than 20 years of retirement. During those years, he played many games of golf a week, becoming so adept that he won club champion at the golf course he lived on in Florida. He and his wife traveled extensively, making it to all of the continents except Australia.

He counted his life as blessed and the very best part for him was spending large amounts of quality time with his children and grandchildren, who were the treasures of his life.

In this time of social separations, there will be no service, only wonderful memories. The family asks that any donations that may be offered be sent to Hospice and Community Care P.O. Box 993 Rock Hill, SC 29731.
