Winston Lloyd Spence

February 18, 1945 — February 7, 2013

Winston Lloyd Spence was born in Mandeville, Jamaica on February 18, 1945 to the late Kenneth Spence and Ruby Maud Taylor, Winston Lloyd Spence was called to rest on February 7, 2013. Winston was a graduate of New Green School and St. Paul of the Cross in Manchester. At age 16, he moved to Kingston where he began a 30 year career as a Chemist at Seprod Limited. In 1991, Winston migrated to the United States and settled in Norwalk, CT. He was employed as a concierge, until retiring in 2010. After retiring, Winston joyfully spent his time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting his homeland of Jamaica and his new favorite city, Charlotte, NC. Winston was a very reserved and humble spirit who protected his family with tenacity and pride. Respectfully known as 'Big Youth', he demonstrated his love for others not by words but by way of his generous deeds. A humanitarian in his own right, Winston cared immensely for the well-being of his loved ones and was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Winston leaves to celebrate his life: his wife and devoted companion, Muriel Spence, children, grandchildren, siblings and a host of family and friends. He is pre-deceased by his grandson Ashantiwah Naphtali Spence. Winston remains a memorable man and he will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Palmetto Funeral Home with William Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Memorial Park in Pineville, NC. Family will receive friends from 10:00 until service time.
