Zelda May Simms

Zelda May (Johnson) Simms, 84, of York, SC and formerly of Wheeling, WV, gained her angel wings into heaven Thursday, December 13, 2018 at CMC in Charlotte. She was born October 4, 1934 in West Liberty, WV, daughter of the late Shriver Jay and Thelma Irene Hercules Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Hercules and sister, Phyllis Cortellesi.

Zelda worked as a bookkeeper with Farm Dairy Co-Op, V&G Electric and Union Federal Savings and Loan. She was also a custodian for West Liberty University and retired from the Cash Management Department with Carolinas Medical Center - Main in Charlotte after several years of dedicated service.

Most important to her was her faith and her family. There is no doubt that she is resting in heaven with the Lord. Zelda was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Wheeling, WV. She was both mother and father to her beloved son, Jeff and was extremely devoted to him, her family and everyone that she loved.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her loving son, Jeffrey A. Moralez-Simms and husband, Jamie of York, SC; grandson, Brian David Moralez and wife, Stephanie; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Archbold of Charlotte; two cousins who were like her sisters, MaryBell Stanley Smith and Dorthy Finsley Hatfield; and nieces who were like daughters, Helen Van Alstine and husband, Gene of Cocoa, FL, Debra Ashbrook and husband Mel, of Charleston, WV, Heather Ashbrook Pennington and Heidi Ashbrook Edwards of Charleston, WV; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Per Zelda's request, no formal services will be held.
