Rock Hill, SC - Our dad, Richard Reingold, was born on August 26, 1948 in Boston to Joseph and Gertrude Reingold. He had two brothers, Arnold (deceased) and Edward (Renee) of Georgia, and a dear Aunt Sid of Florida. He passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Richard graduated from Randolph High School and UMass Lowell with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent most of his working years at Sweetheart Plastics, Sencorp, and Alloyd.
In 1988, Richard met the love of his life, Deborah Quinton Sands, who he always called “Babe.” They spent their time living in Massachusetts, Illinois, and finally landed in South Carolina to be closer to family. This year was their 30th wedding anniversary. Together they raised five somewhat-behaved children: Scott, Heidi, Jessica (Benj), Tommy, and Steven (Kristen), and two terribly-behaved dogs: Bebe and Prince.
Over the years he had many nicknames including Rich, Ricky, and Dick. But perhaps his favorite nickname was Papa, given to him by his grandchildren Mason, Felicity, and Harry. He was overjoyed to hear just last week that there is another one on the way.
Richard loved model cars and met his best friends after joining various model clubs in Cape Cod, Dekalb, and Rock Hill/Charlotte. He made it his mission to expose us to excellent music: classic rock with heavy doses of Aerosmith, The Stones, and, of course, his favorite, The Beatles. By day he was there with a hilariously bad joke. By night he was falling asleep in his chair while a B-grade horror flick was playing on the TV.
He was a romantic husband, dancing with his bride in the living room. He adored all his nieces and nephews and loved family parties with his in-laws. He was content to spend time with his grandkids at the zoo, watching dance, or talking trains. And he was the greatest dad you could imagine, always there with handy solutions and the best hugs.
If you knew him, you couldn’t help but love him. The ultimate family man, he was gentle, kind, and selfless. We were the luckiest kids to have him as our dad.
Please join his wife and children for a celebration of his life at Edgemoor ARP Church (2135 Starnes Rd, Edgemoor, SC) on Sunday, March 15 at 5pm. Light refreshments with the family to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (https://www.michaeljfox.org).
Condolences may be left at www.whitesellfuneralhome.net.
