Susan Terese Mccloskey

November 25, 1941 — September 20, 2020

Sue McCloskey, 78, of Fort Mill, SC peacefully joined her Lord in Heaven on September 20, 2020. Her lifelong strength and spirit was demonstrated in her courageous battle with uterine cancer, which she conquered this day.  She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Sue was born in Teaneck, NJ on November 25, 1941. She grew up in southern Florida until moving to Fort Mill, SC in 2010. She is survived by her husband of nearly 7 years, Denny; sons- Fred Reid, Jr of Japan and Jeff Reid of West Palm Beach, FL; daughters – Kelly Van Note of West Palm Beach, FL and Teresa Kauppinen of Rock Hill, SC. Sue is also survived by sisters, Ellen Green of Hernando, FL and Joan Britt of Citra, FL and brother Rob Taylor of Hobe Sound, FL. Sue had 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren; Hope Reid, Fredrick Lyall Reid, James Landson Reid, Owen Scheaffer Reid. Micahia Reid, Noah Reid, Michael Gruber, Kathleen Potts, Mattie Raza, Joshua Brown, Chloe Renta, Clement Kauppinen, Carson Kauppinen, Eerik Kauppinen III, and Nicholas Reid. She also adored her “furry daughter”, Zoey, who will wonder why Mom is not telling her to stop barking at the neighbor dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Taylor and Anna Landson.

Sue had a zest for life and enjoyed exercising outdoors and at the gym (as much as she enjoyed County Line Pizza). She was the life of the party and would always have family and friends gather in her home for holidays and birthdays. She made trips to Japan, Hong Kong, Italy and Israel as well as going on a 5,000-mile road trip to western states and to New England for anniversary trips. While she enjoyed experiencing everything she could in life, she always gave back to her community in some way. During her younger years, Susan was a Cub Scout leader, President of the Junior Women’s Club, AWANA’s teacher, and taught swimming lessons at the YWCA (as well as to all her grandchildren). This type of commitment to the community and her family continued through every stage of her life. She was a member at 1st Baptist Church, West Palm Beach for over 20 years, Forest Hill Church in Fort Mill, SC and most recently at Good Shepherd Church in Charlotte, NC. Susan volunteered and helped women who were victims of domestic violence and trafficking to make jewelry for income. Susan was a dedicated Christian and professed her belief in Jesus Christ. As she is no longer with us, her place is made in Heaven where she can sing with the angels and be free of pain.
